She's got "it"

1928 - She's got "it".

Hopefully, “it” isn’t syphilis. Another image I’ve colorized, there was a series of these images created in the 20’s and 30’s, categorized in the LOC as “Glamour photographs”.

1898 Colorized Wiggle Animation, Jewish Quarters

Jewish Quarters

1898 - The Jewish quarters, Constantinople, Turkey

The most complicated colorized image I’ve so far tried.  I loved the image, but it was badly warped, so it took some doing.  The little boy on the left was a bit of an Easter egg, I didn’t see him until I was about 20 minutes into building the animation.  Maybe my favorite image to date…

Monastery of St. Catherine

1900-1920 - To Sinai via the Red Sea, Tor, and Wady Hebran. Interior of the church seen from the apse. Monastery of St. Catherine.

This one would no doubt be a better animation with the outer edges of the door cropped, however I was impressed with the images painted around it, so they stay!

A creative new use for historical images

I’ve always enjoyed seeing images of scenes now and then, and in fact hope to take a trip to Charleston before winter to do the same with some old Civil War images.  Sergey Larenkov has used this technique and added a twist, creating ghost-like images by overlaying parts of old images over the new.  The results are surreal and striking, I urge you to check out his blog here.
